Having had several weeks of uneven toast, the old toaster went out the window, literally. I decided on a Dualit 2 slice lite as I trust the brand having had Dualit products throughout my life ( though not the previous toaster). The toaster arrived next day, simply but effectively packaged and was duly unboxed and plugged in.We toasted 6 slices of thick farmhouse bread which were all, evenly, a golden brown just with the default setting. These first ones fed the birds in the garden, but the following ones fed me, and I was happy. Instead of white and dark brown colours (on the same side of the toast) with a chewy consistency, they were pleasantly crisp, warm and even. Success! Happiness! My partner is chuffed as well, her crumpets and potato scones come out perfect. The finish of this toaster is excellent, and it's a solid build as you expect from Dualit, is easily cleaned, and toasts very quickly- a real bonus.Worth the money! It toasts, no fuss!
Absolutely LOVE this Dualit 2 Slice Lite Toaster - a 2 slice option is perfect for me. It's very stylish and looks super-classy on my worktop, next to my new black and chrome kettle. It took a few attempts to get the correct shade of brown but now it toasts perfectly every time, albeit slightly stripy-looking. I've so far only tried it with different supermarket variations of Tiger bread and, so far, all sizes have fitted into the slots with no problems. It feels robust and the controls are easy to use. Some of the negative reviews did put me off and the price also caused me to wince, but as my old toaster lasted 30+ years (not Dualit), I figured I deserved a nice new classy-looking toaster! Very glad I ordered it and I hope it lasts me for many years to come.
Perfect toast, but at this price it pretty well should be.Bought to replace a 'cheap' Aldi toaster which was OK but I particularly wanted the ability to do 'one side only' toasting for teacakes and bagels. This achieves this perfectly. The slightly uneven toasting on the pictured teacake is down to the way I cut it. It does really nice toast, as you can see I like my toast pretty well done and crispy so this was done on setting '4'. The teacake was on setting '3'. The bread is ASDA's Exceptional seeded loaf and the teacake is a Warburtons.Mine is the two slice version which is perfect for a two person household like ours. With a bit of experimentation you will get 100% perfect toast/breads exactly to your liking. We used Dualit toasters at work so I wanted one from home due to the longevity. This is a 'Lite' version but hopefully will also last a long time.Yes its expensive for a toaster, other named brand versions can be had for less but I was happy to pay what I did, £75 because so far it works to well.It looks very well built, the elemenets in particular lok thicker and more robust than the ones in the much cheaper (£7 on offer!!!) Aldi Ambio one it replaces. That will be going in the caravan. So yes I am happy to give it 5 stars and recommend it.
A superb toaster. I like this brand as they are very reliable and built to last. In fact the old 2 slot is still going. I purchased this almost by accident as the timer on my old Dualit kept getting stuck and on occasions burnt the bread. I purchased this one as a back up whilst I repaired my old toaster. Little did I know that parts for Dualit toasters are easy to source and easy to repair. Having said this, the 4 slots is a godsend and until I purchased one, I did not realise how useful this actually was, especially if you have hungry children. This 4-slot toaster does not have a rotary timer like the old 2-slot one it replaced (maybe there is less to go wrong) and the new 4-slot toaster adjusts the time taking to toast the bread depending on how hot the toaster gets so in theory you do not have to keep varying the "browning" control. It seems to work. I also like the look and feel of this toaster and it takes pride and place in my kitchen.
We have bought some rubbish toasters over the years, none of which seemed to last long. So we decided to spend more than the usual £20-25 and go for something heavier duty. This toaster is a well-built piece of engineering, not a flimsy, seemingly disposable item. The bread is evenly toasted, I love that the slots are wide enough - and automatically adjust - to take fairly big doorsteps of homemade bread. The one-sided bagel toasting feature works fine should you want it, but I especially like that you can just lift the lever to check how things are doing without interrupting the timer. One word of caution, but not a criticism: the timer knob is fairly sensitive. Where 2 may toast lightly, 3 may be darker than you would like. However, there are several degrees marked between each number on the dial, and the knob will comfortably click onto any of them. It's just a question of figuring out what you like, then remembering to reset it from whatever your kids/partner/housemate has left it at, and the toaster will reliably repeat your last experience. We've had this for over two months now, and I've a feeling it will be around for years.
Toaster Shopping isn't an exciting task, but the time comes when your (random generic brand) trusty toaster finally decides to call it a day after 5 years of service. Not ideal! Some friends recommended this would be the perfect opportunity to invest in a Dualit Toaster.I'd never considered it before but I suddenly came across a wealth of positive reviews regarding the build, ease of repair and the overall amazing reputation of the brand. I'm happy to say that these reviewers weren't wrong! It is extremely easy to use, satisfyingly light weight whilst not feeling flimsy, and most importantly - it makes really good toast! I'm very appreciative of the large slots to accommodate for slightly larger slices of bread, and the fact that it covers the entire slice(s) of bread (our previous toaster always left one side of the crust slightly uncooked).Honestly, I know that you, like me, will look at the price tag and second think it. But, I would much rather purchase something that will last and do the job it was intended to do. It looks great too!
Dualit Perfect Toast Technology toasts the bread evenly on both sides , the temperature dial lets you toast the bread from very light to well done. The Peek and Pop function is for checking on your toast without interrupting the cycle, this function works really well, the toaster is well constructed with a stainless steel body and a choice of colours to suit the environment. With some patience it can be cleaned, as with most toasters you have to clean it carefully and not use anything abrasive. All in all a great toaster which should last for many years. The toaster is of average size for a 2 Slice.
Old toaster went bang after an incident with an escaped currant from a bun and a teaspoon. Oops. Shame, it was great. One feature that I particularly liked was the bagel-button (toasts one side only) and I was keen that the replacement should replicate. Tough ask as it turned out, not many toasters have this function. Had to pay rather more than I’d planned, but so far not disappointed. The Dualit looks good, feels solid, has minimal but useful features, nice wide slots, takes a separately available sandwich toasting cage which is great, and toasts pretty well. Particularly like being able to lift to view without breaking the toasting cycle.Pricey but money well spent.
Bought as a replacement after 20 years hard use of the same model. Would have used the Dualit repair service as only the bagel and defrost buttons were broken, but decided it couldn't be much more expensive to replace it. Glad we did. Perfect, consistent toast as ever, solidly built, and looks like it should last another 20 years.... Only gripe is the design's gone a bit retro compared to the old version. Chrome suround on the lifter slot, really?
quite a stylish toaster, fits in well with dark worktops. Ease of use and i prefer bread toasted one side, quite expensive for a toaster but hoping this brand will last longer than previous toaster.
This is the best toaster I have ever purchased. It actually toasts fast enough to keep the inside of the toast lovely and soft. Sick of eating hard toast I decided to try this one after being recommended by several people. Not disappointed. Fabulous toaster. Love it.
There is nothing not to like about this toaster. We looked at a lot of toasters to replace our old four slicer. I was quite specific about size, colour, particularly didn't want the edging on top where lots of crumbs seem to gather...nightmare to keep crumb free. Anyway, this one fits my requirements perfectly. Love the one crumb tray. I haven't used all the setting yet, my husband loves it, his bagels toast a dream. I had toast this morning...it was perfect. It's the little things in life that make me happy, this toaster is certainly one of them.Ps You get what you pay for, it may be on the higher price scale but I can see it lasting a long long time.
This toaster makes consistently good toast, with even browning across both sides of the bread. Simple to use.
good basic design and solid manufacture. Gets the job air jobs done.
Bought to replace identical toaster obtained 13 years ago. I just hope this one lasts as long.
Excellent toaster,does everything perfectly.
For the price it is just about justifiable, and it does what it should.Yes you can burn toast, but experience gained reduces the risk in future use of the toaster. The look up feature is a plus as you can check how it is doing and shut it off when it is just right.I tried the sandwich additional options and they work fine, but have had to put them in the microwave a couple of times to get the cheese to melt to my satisfaction. However we are regularly using Brosch bread so it toasts and burns easy, so need to keep an eye on it to get it exactly right.
Works even better than expected.
My experience of toasters has been a vindication of the maxim "cheap becomes expensive".Having bough more supermarket and midrange toasters than I care to mention, all have invariably failed to deliver on their loft promises and deteriorate too soon (last one; the plastic melted; highly safe!). I wouldn't want to estimate how much I've spent replacing toasters. This toaster is crazy-expensive when compared to what else you can buy, but the build quality, repairability, configurability, every-day usability (and yes, looks!) make it a proof that the contra statement "Expensive becomes cheap" is very true.
This toaster has served me wellI have used it most days for the past 4 yearsI have just purchased anotherI Highly Recommend this toasterOnly downside a bit expensive
We wanted a quality 4 slice toaster that would toast the bread evenly that popped up hot. We looked through several of the options available and even though this model was pricey compared to similar options, we decided to spend that bit extra. In short, it was a great purchase backed up by the product warranty. Very nice, evenly cooked toast and we’re really happy.
I have to assume that those who complain that it only toasts one side of the bread must have pressed the bagel button. Mine toasts evenly and quickly. The "pop-up" facility is great, especially when setting it up or switching bread thicknesses, bakers, types, etc.Setting up: Use a binary chop approach. Pop a slice of toast in and set the dial to 3. If it's not toasted how you like, wait for the toaster to cool then pop another slice in and set the dial to 5. If this is done too much, wait then toast another slide at setting 4. Keep halving the setting between the 'too much' and 'too little' until you find your Goldilocks ('baby bear') setting. Note that on 4-slide toasters this might be different for both pairs of slots. It will be different for various breads, crumpets, etc.Crumpets and potato cakes: The highest setting (8) doesn't toast these as much as I like, so it needs two toastings , one at 8 and the other at 3. Be prepared for this.Update: For toasting bagels and buns, ignore what the manual says about "cut side to the middle". I assumed [basic error!] this meant the middle of the toaster; and so it does for 2-slide toasters. But what is really means is cut side to the divider between the pair of slots. So for 4-slice toasters it's cut side to the divider on each side of the toaster. It would have been better described as this rather than "middle". Having said that, it does a great job once the setting is worked out.
This replaced my last Dualit toaster. Although a bit expensive for what it is, I still like them.
Our Dualit Two Slice Toaster stopped working today. We had it since 2007.Purchased a new Dualit today as Very reliable.Would highly recommend
I was on the brink of recommending this toaster to someone and thought I'd check out the latest reviews. I'm quite surprised to see such negativity so I thought I'd write about my own experience, which has been very positive!I purchased my Dualit 26205 in March 2011 which makes it 3.5 years ago at the time of writing. It doesn't have hi tech "bells and whistles" such as frost sensors and digital whatever, this is a basic machine and that's why I like it. Put the bread in and wait for it to pop out. Personally I don't adjust the timer for different bread types and thickness. It does have a button you press for frozen bread (which I always forget to press) and another for one-sided (bagel) toasting. On to some practical matters. It's easy to clean the chrome so it keeps looking like brand new. It has a crumb tray which is easy to remove and clean. Importantly, the machine doesn't get dangerously too hot to touch during toasting. The machine is used probably 5 days out of 7 and has been solidly reliable with no faults and no servicing required, which, in my opinion, makes it fair value for money.Dualit was recommended to me. I bought one and am very pleased. Despite some negative reviews, I've decided I'm going to recommend it to my friend whose brand-new 'famous kitchen appliance brand'' toaster does get dangerously hot and doesn't pop the toast fully out meaning you have to delve in with your fingers or tongs. It's not that often these days you can look at a purchase and say to yourself "wow I got lucky, this really is the bees knees" but with this sturdy old toaster, that's exactly how I feel ! I just fancy a slice of toast now, back in 5 minutes ;-)
