Excellent but way overpriced

Toasts evenly and very fast, like 3x times faster than cheap toasters. Build quality is outstanding and it looks fantastic, gives 60s vibes. It has a mechanical timer which makes a bit of noise but I like it that way, you want to hear it working so you don’t forget it’s on. It heats up in seconds, don’t leave it unattended.Best toasts I ever ate, seriously. Not worth the price though but if you want efficient toast making than this is it.

A design classic

A toaster for life. Still hand made in England. I decided to go for the polished stainless steel option and it's a real statement. These classic Dualits aren't pop-up toasters, they use a timer and have a manual lever to raise the toast - very simple to use. Wide slots can accommodate a hand-cut bread. The Vario model has a two/four slot switch. This toaster gives great results as you'd expect at this price. If you're in the market for an expensive toaster then this is really the one to have. All parts are easily replaced and readily available - Dualit also to a repair service for UK customers.

The Rolls Royce of toasters…

What can I say? It comes with a piece of paper that shows who made it… wow! A superb item. Works flawlessly, looks incredible… a British classic renowned the world over. I bought one for my son’s wedding present… I hope they both like toast!

Surprisingly Better Toast

I thought I was buying into a maintainable toaster, having just binned two.I've been surprised that it actually makes better toast too. The toast is toasted on the outside but fluffy on the inside. My previous toaster produced a more uniformly dried out piece of bread. I'm guessing the Dualit runs hotter elements to more quickly toast without drying out. However it does it, I thought toast was toast, but no, this really does do a better job than my previous 'cheapo' toaster.

Good old-fashioned design

Like: all parts are replaceable, it is solid/sturdy, toast can be raised/lowered during toasting to check colour, produces very good toast - crisp on the outside, soft in the middle. No dislikes

tough toaster

I really bought this because I liked the idea of a professional type of toaster . I don't think I would pay so much for a toaster for my residence but it is for a "holiday let"in Largs and I like to put in sturdy good quality items and tenants appreciate it. I have only looked at it so far and it looks good and I reckon it will produce good toast but who knows...I guess someone will use it soon but personally I never toast anything. It does look nice and feel solid though and should not be confused with the plasticky cheaper Dualit, nice enough though they are too.

Great toast and good looks

Like most others with a view for good design I'd always wanted a Dualit toaster but the cost deterred me. However when I found this 4 slice for £130 it was time to press the buy button. I like the quirkiness of the Dualit design ie. the mechanical timer and the lever to raise the toast keeps the toast warm. Some reviewers have mentioned how much better the toast tastes and believe it or not it does, especially when you cut the bread that little bit thicker and let the margarine or butter soak in. Perhaps not the healthiest recommendation but once in a while won't hurt. Enjoy it - I am

The best toaster in the world

I’ve had one of these for years and have just bought one for my daughter as a wedding present. They are lovely to look at and just go on and on seemingly indestructible.

Worth Every Penny!

Beautiful, Durable, and makes perfect evenly cooked toast every time. I’ve fallen in love with eating toast again, since I bought a Dualit!I considered buying a Dualit toaster for 2 years, because it’s sooo expensive, and I just couldn’t justify the cost.Since purchase however, I have to say it is TOTALLY WORTH IT!! Perfect toast every time has made us fall in love with toast as a snack all over again, and manufactured replacement parts means it will last forever. There is a reason why almost every ward in every hospital in the entire NHS use Dualit toasters. They are EXCELLENT and cost-effective.

Consistency and Durability

This is the second Dualit I've owned. This one is a replacement for one that lasted fifteen years. It's an excellent machine that enables you to toast fresh or frozen bread to exactly how you like it. Expensive in the short term but great value if it lasts as long as my first one did. Also, the support staff were first rate in helping me with a minor problem of my own making.Regrettably my toaster has been quite poor. I think one of the elements is defective. I have had such great previous experience with an earlier model of Dualit that I have asked for a replacement not a refund.

The Toast Of Toasters

It's an odd fact that virtually all toasters available for domestic use are the wrong size for the everyday slice of bread. There's always an inch or so of bread sticking out that doesn't get toasted. You'd think that they'd at least know the size of a slice of bread, wouldn't you. The first thing that strikes about the Dualit is that the bread actually fits inside completely. So simple but so unusual. Sturdily constructed it takes up almost a square foot of worktop but we can live with that! With the manual variable timer you get the toast you want. Probably one of the best kitchen 'tools' that we've ever bought. Yes, it's expensive but as they say 'you get what you pay for' & this is worth every penny. Great!

A British-Made, No-Nonsense Toaster

A toaster made in Britain, with easily-available spare parts when eventually one or more of the three elements wears out. Simple clockwork mechanism means no microcircuit chips from abroad. Simple lever system to raise the toasted bread. I only had to watch it the first time to learn how long it takes to toast, to know how long to set the mechanical timer - easy-peasy! I like it’s rounded lines, like the fact I can save electricity by turning off an element if I’m toasting only one slice, and I like the crumb tray. Makes great toast quickly.

Perfect toast

After having bought several toasters of various values and having them last about 18 months (producing one sided toast)I decided to treat us to a dualit. So far I have not been disappointed. It does produce evenly browned toast that is crisp and crunchy. It does look the business in the kitchen.I think on reflection I would have spent a little extra and bought the more expensive one that you can vary the amount of bread you toast as in 1,2,3,or 4 slices. With this one the instructions recommend that you don't do just one slice to leave the other slot burning with no bread in. You can do 2 or 4 slices though. One more thing - don't tell other non converts how much you paid for it. They look at you like you are mad for paying that much but they don't know how good it is!!

It's a dualit... best damn toaster available.

These things are solid... it's just classic old school manufacturing that doesn't break. It's one of those products that you put in your will to leave to your favourite child :) It lasts that long... my last one still worked fine (22 years old), but it was only three slot and quite frankly needed a good scrub down. It now has a new home and will likely last another generation. Longevity costs, but it's worth it.

Best toaster on the market

If you are in the market for a toaster Dualit should be right at the top of your list.Bought this to compliment my new kitchen and boy it stands out.Keep it OUT from under kitchen wall cabinets as it gets VERY HOT.Will easily produce 4 slices of toast in only 2 minutes flat.Very quick and an absolute beast. Never known a toaster to toast bread so quickly.Surprised the hotels abroad don't use them they are SO FAST.

Excellent! Follow the instructions and safety advice (Switch off ...

Excellent! Follow the instructions and safety advice (Switch off at wall when not in use) and everything is fine. Yes it takes home made bread, as long as you don't cut your slices like paving slabs. (There IS an art to cutting fresh bread - use a sharp knife and cut backward toward yourself slowly using a little pressure - do not cut in forward thrusts). We have a Panasonic bread machine and it takes average sized machine made bread. Best not to use freshly made bread in a toaster - 24 hours old is better. The machine is very well made and easy to use. Average setting on times is about 2 - 2.5. If you over do it, and toast is burning, just switch power of at the wall (Note: the timer will continue - it is mechanical but power will be off) and lift the leaver to remove toast. :)

LIKES - At a time when so many products are made down to a price rather than up to a standard, it is refreshing to have bought a toaster that's made to last. We'd been through 3-4 cheap toasters, and an expensive one over a period of about 5-6 years, so decided to bite the bullet and shell out on a Dualit based on their reputation. It's heavily constructed, very well put together, and stylish in a retro way. Functionally it works just as it should.Rather than having settings for various degrees of browning, the toaster has a count-down 'clockwork' timer, which ticks away the seconds until it eventually switches off. We find that anywhere between 2 and 2.5 minutes does the toast nicely. Has a selector switch to do just one slice if required.DISLIKES - More something to be aware of than a dislike, but as there is no pop-up facility, thin slices can become rather dried out if left in the toaster for a while.

a real toaster.

I have had two Dualit toasters, both failed in time (several years). Looked for a toaster made in UK, or in Europe, NOT in China. Difficult to find. Thought I had done it when I saw a Kenwood toaster with Union flag on sides. It was expensive at £100 but if made in UK I'd pay it. It eventualy arrived (from Germany ? ) I turned it over to find MADE IN CHINA , then it only toasts one side of the bread. I'm not paying £100 for this lump of crap, so it's packed to go back. Bit the cost bullet and ordered a Dualit Classic 2 slice toaster. Should have done this to start with, it's brilliant, a model of design that at first may seem old fashioned,or strange, but it's not. IT just works. Try one. Best toaster on the market believe me.

Great toaster and electric kettle

Great toaster, very strong, this make is fantastic as I bought a electric kettle the same make a few months ago and I couldn’t say one bad word about both items

Just the best toaster

You can buy toasters that do everything for you or you can buy a Dualit, it's back to the old days. Don't get me wrong, this is a fantastic toaster. A lever to pop your toast up or down, a switch for 2 slices or 4 slices and a clockwork timer for 3 minutes or less of toast cooking, what else do you need, apart from startling good looks. The timer thingy gets a bit of getting used to, to find your correct level of toastiness for your toast, I reckon about 2.5 mins, which is just dark enough for me.I also like the pull out tray for the crumbs, very easy to clean. Also, there aren't many toasters where you can buy spare parts for, most are throw away. I don't think I'll need a different toaster ever.I also bought the sandwich cage which means I can do cheese toasties in it too, and the cheese doesn't fall out all over the inside of the toaster, simplisity at its best. (British engineering done well)And I noticed in our local Waitrose cafe, they've got one as well.... and they do a lot of toast.

Totally fed up.
Amazing toaster

Extremely well made and without all the useless gimmicks that you find on so many household items these days. I love the fact that it is UK made and repairable, unlike so many things these days that are not. It may seem a lot to pay for a toaster but I don’t think I’ll ever have to buy another one! It’s the first toaster I’ve ever had that browns the bread evenly. I love its good old fashioned simplicity. If you don’t want to be in a regular cycle of buying and disposing of toasters, buy this!

A toaster for life

This is the toaster most favoured by the military and small professional kitchens and it is worth every penny of its high price. It looks gorgeous, and fits most bread perfectly. The elements are tightly wound and protected so that you can toast bread in around 2.5 minutes without it drying out, unlike on cheap toasters. You can also choose 2 or 4 slots to save energy, and you can quickly defrost frozen bread. You can also increase the timer during toasting, which you can’t do on cheaper toasters. The best thing of all is that it will literally last for life as every component is replaceable should it break. The price does seem high, until you compare it with the cost of running and replacing a number of cheap toasters over 10 years, so we think it is fully justified.
