Best toaster brand!

We have just had a new kitchen fitted & wanted our appliances to be matte black/silver. We still have our classic silver Dualit toaster - still going strong after nearly 23 years - but it isn’t looking as new as it was once, so we have saved it for our daughter when she moves out. This new one looks absolutely gorgeous with the matte black ends (NB is coated metal, NOT plastic!). It also installs the same confidence in longevity as our previous one. It is a lovely heavy weight. I also love the noise it makes in use (the timer), and the sandwich cage for pancakes, etc (which we purchased separately). The reason I have given it 4 instead of 5 stars (our previous model would have 5), is that it seems to give off waaaaaay more heat out of the slots & you can see the heat rising & streaming out of them when in use. This never happened with our other model. The advice now is also to never use directly below cabinets as it can cause a fire hazard & will invalidate your guarantee. We didn’t know this until the item arrived & we read the manual advice - expecting it to be the same as our previous model. We never had this issue before. So, since we had designed the kitchen to put the toaster under the wall cabinets, we now have to pull the toaster right forwards before we use it, so it is not under the wall cabinet. Another new must according to the warranty advice is that you have to unplug after every use - again as it can otherwise be a fire hazard! We have never previously had to unplug appliances when not in use, but do so religiously now.I would still purchase again, as the longevity of these toasters against regular toasters is far superior, & they are a design classic! 🌟

Solid and the best

This toaster is a thing of beauty. Solid. We replaced the last one after 20 years. Very high quality

Nice quality item.

Very nice slick looking toaster. Sturdy build. Timer works really well. Toasts nice and evenly. Expensive but worth the money.

A design classic that works perfectly.

Dualit toasters are the best. They are the only toasters that fits sliced bread and thick shelf-cut chunks. Bread never gets stuck. Crumpets come out perfectly. The timer means that burnt toast is rare. But be careful if doing a second batch of toast as the residual heat means it the bread browns faster than the first batchI purchased this from Amazon resale and everything is working perfectly. It was only the box that was damaged.

Iconic British toaster.

This Dualit toaster is still made in the UK. It is somewhat iconic and let's face it, expensive. So I was pleased to get one in mint condition for £90+ less than retail in Amazon resale. It is the standard four slot version with one rocker switch to select two or four pieces of toast. It works well but like iconic things has its foibles: The powerful elements heat up very quickly, so the toast is crisp yet still moist inside. The slots could be a tad wider for sourdough miche but the sandwich cages help. The mechanical timer is quaint in this digital age but Dualit recommend you disconnect it after use; no mains isolation here. The toast lifter is vigorous, while the crumb tray is minimalist. It's a lovely thing to own, it makes excellent toast but I am glad I got the large discount. Hence five stars.

Excellent toast quite quickly

Looks smart in my kitchen. It toasts the slice evenly and it’s easy to select how light or dark you want your toast. I think the crumb tray lets the toaster down a little bit as it’s quite sharp around the edges and could be more rounded to stop this but it doesn’t deter from the overall look or quality of the toaster which I’m very pleased with.

Best toaster ever!

Read the instructions inside the box before unpacking as it has vital information re the first time use, i.e. there may be slight smoke and crackling noises - be aware. This is such a sturdy, well grounded toaster and looks fab alongside my matching Dualit polished steel kettle - which I was amazed to find I'd had since October 2021 (I thought I'd had it about 18 months and it still looks new!)Be aware it may remain hot for longer than other toasters you may have used, and the sides can be very hot if you intent moving it away from a permanent location (I kept my previous toaster in the utility room and carried it to the kitchen to use, but this is so lovely I may just leave it on display permanently). My decision to purchase a Dualit toaster was the ability to replace parts and not to purchase another cheaper model ever (I've gone through >7 cheaper toasters over the decades, but no more!) I always wanted a Dualit toaster ever since I worked in the health service in the days where we made patients toast for supper!!Finally, I'd remind and recommend anyone to register your product, it's a seamless and easy step and instructions are provided.

A toaster for life

This is the toaster most favoured by the military and small professional kitchens and it is worth every penny of its high price. It looks gorgeous, and fits most bread perfectly. The elements are tightly wound and protected so that you can toast bread in around 2.5 minutes without it drying out, unlike on cheap toasters. You can also choose 2 or 4 slots to save energy, and you can quickly defrost frozen bread. You can also increase the timer during toasting, which you can’t do on cheaper toasters. The best thing of all is that it will literally last for life as every component is replaceable should it break. The price does seem high, until you compare it with the cost of running and replacing a number of cheap toasters over 10 years, so we think it is fully justified.

a real toaster.

I have had two Dualit toasters, both failed in time (several years). Looked for a toaster made in UK, or in Europe, NOT in China. Difficult to find. Thought I had done it when I saw a Kenwood toaster with Union flag on sides. It was expensive at £100 but if made in UK I'd pay it. It eventualy arrived (from Germany ? ) I turned it over to find MADE IN CHINA , then it only toasts one side of the bread. I'm not paying £100 for this lump of crap, so it's packed to go back. Bit the cost bullet and ordered a Dualit Classic 2 slice toaster. Should have done this to start with, it's brilliant, a model of design that at first may seem old fashioned,or strange, but it's not. IT just works. Try one. Best toaster on the market believe me.

Expensive, but looks great

Lets be honest, I, like everyone else, bought this toaster because it looks cool! Does it toast better than any other toaster? Probably not! On a more serious note, it feels very well built, and will be very easy to repair if it does go wrong. I like the timer, as you get used to where it needs to be set for the bread you always use. I would like a cancel button though for when you overdo it with the timer. As it is you have to switch it off at the wall if you've set the timer for too long. It doesn't toast especially evenly, but I'm yet to find a toaster that does. We have the Dualit kettle too, and being able to keep them for years and buy spares when needed is what attracted me. It's a lot of money for toasting bread, but it does look great!

Don't be confused by the high price

We've had this toaster for over 7 years and it has never missed a beat.Previously our longest surviving toaster was about 18 months.Let's get one thing out of the way, yes it is expensive. Yes, it is (in my opinion) worth it. Over the seven years we've had the toaster it's cost about £15 a year and its still going strong. Pretty much every breakable item on it can be repaired at home, so there's no reason to think it won't go on for another 7 or more years. Some reviewers have commented that certain parts have had to be replaced within one or two years. Surely the point here is that they can be replaced? With this toaster you're buying into the long term. Some other reviewers have commented that it doesn't make good toast. I really have no idea what they are on about. Once you get the hang of how long set the timer it makes perfect toast. Furthermore you can check the progress easily as it cooks. What some people call 'uneven' I call 'character'.Pros:Looks great.Makes toasties with the addition of a 'sandwich cage' or use of a toaster bag.Indestructible overall, although individual parts may fail.Toast stays warmCons:Slots can be small for some kinds of bread, but there are other Dualit models that cater for larger slices. If I want to do pittas I just flip them half way. It works.Initial purchase cost. A lot of money, but better than paying £30 a year for a new toaster, in my opinion.

Just the best toaster

You can buy toasters that do everything for you or you can buy a Dualit, it's back to the old days. Don't get me wrong, this is a fantastic toaster. A lever to pop your toast up or down, a switch for 2 slices or 4 slices and a clockwork timer for 3 minutes or less of toast cooking, what else do you need, apart from startling good looks. The timer thingy gets a bit of getting used to, to find your correct level of toastiness for your toast, I reckon about 2.5 mins, which is just dark enough for me.I also like the pull out tray for the crumbs, very easy to clean. Also, there aren't many toasters where you can buy spare parts for, most are throw away. I don't think I'll need a different toaster ever.I also bought the sandwich cage which means I can do cheese toasties in it too, and the cheese doesn't fall out all over the inside of the toaster, simplisity at its best. (British engineering done well)And I noticed in our local Waitrose cafe, they've got one as well.... and they do a lot of toast.

replacement for my workhorse!

I had my previous Dualit toaster for a number of years and had apart from replacing the elements I had no problems at all I decided to upgrade as I am no longer single and have a wife and young child so I wanted the convience of a four slice toaster (this new machine has a great feature which means you can power only 2 sides when only 2 slices being done thus saving electricity and the elements on one side) also, being honest I liked the colour and it matches my empire red kitchenaid mixer... the drawback to this machine (apart from the fairly outrageous price) is the wide slots, now this is actually another reason I bought this machine as I make my own sourdough bread and love really thick slices which it toast fantastically,HOWEVER if you use ordinary thin/ medium sliced bread it can be a nightmare as the bread often just leans to one side resulting in it being toasted/burnt on one side. this is the only reason I am giving this toaster 4 out of 5. if you found my review helpfull please click below

It's one of those things.....

I bought my Dualit shiny 4 slice toaster just before Christmas - fantastic delivery time by Amazon. It arrived within 48 hours and I was expecting a 3 week delay!I have wanted one of these for many years but have never been able to justify paying such a price for a toaster. In the end i did (though at a substantially lover price than the high street) even so I didn't find it easy parting with 10 times the amount I could have bought a perfectly good toaster for.I now have my toaster and it looks very cool indeed. And it makes toast. That's it. I can't say in all honesty that it does the job any better than the one I've just stuck on freecycle. In fact, it may not even be as good. The one I threw out has some sort of electronic monitoring for even toasting and can deal with any width of bread, which the Dualit cannot. (unless you buy the toastie basket which will squash teacakes etc in. However, I love the presence of this machine, and it does feel like it will last for ever. I also like the slight quirkiness about it - the fact that it doesn't pop up, the fact that if you have made toast and then want more you need to reduce the toasting time. If you want a value for money toaster, don't buy one. If you want an iconic design classic, which says something , thpough I'm not sure what, which also makes nice toast, then I reccommend it. I knew I had to get one sometime in my life. It's done now and i like it a lot. I've only given it 4 stars, because as a small electrical appliance it is not good value in my opinion, but you are buying more than a toaster, and how you get on with it will depend on your reasons for getting one.

Solid and reliable but it's not a Hummer

To all the nay-sayers - read the instructions. This is a toaster designed for commercial use and benefits from being warmed up first - I turn mine on a bit beforehand to get it up to operating temperature (try setting it for 3 minutes or so and drop the toast in after 30-60 seconds, or whatever suits your bread). I've had several toasters before (one coming close to setting the kitchen alight) and all have been dumped in less time that I've had mine and it's still looking good and functioning well (apart from the bulb in the rocker switch having blown). Yes I'd agree that it can be described as an expensive style statement, and it is perhaps overkill, but at least it's not an offensively ugly'gas-guzzling' American 4x4 and it doesn't cost more to run than a normal toaster.update: after 9 years one element has just blown, about a tenner to replace, but I have to say I'm relishing the opportunity to strip it down and clean it. I was rather surprised at how the cast aluminium ends had dulled and suggest that a bit more TLC in it's 9 years or so might have made polishing them just that bit easier. Still, it's been a joy to own and, apart from a Kenwood Chef, how many appliances can you say that of?
